Welcome to Mama Bear Apologetics! The original recording was a bit long so we divided it up into two parts.
Here Rebekah and I give an overview of what Mama Bear Apologetics is, where we got the idea, what our own personal stories are and some helpful resources.
We cover some basic topics like:
- The Trilemma (podcast to follow)
- Nicene Creed (see below)
- Evidences for the resurrection – I recommend the relevant chapters in J. Warner Wallace’s book Cold Case Christianity
- Core vs Peripheral doubt (podcast and blogs to follow)
- An interesting analogy of atheism from Celiac disease (blog to follow)
Resources mentioned:
- Lee Strobel’s “Case for…” series – Case for Christ, Case for Grace, Case for A Creator, and Case for… kids series
- J. Warner Wallace’s Cold Case Christianity (see link above)
- CS Lewis Narnia Series
- Families and Faith by Vern L. Bengsten (see my book review here)

Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.

Thank you for your book and podcast. I love the concept behind them. I’m halfway through the book and started the podcast today – episode 1.
While most of the content was great, my own mama bear instinct was ruffled when you talked about celiac disease. My 12 year old was diagnosed earlier this year with celiac disease so I was disappointed with how flippant and incorrect you were about it. It sounded like a virus that was just going to resolve itself and also it is not an allergy, it is an autoimmune disease which will never go away and is hereditary so her sister may get it too. Forever my daughter has to eat gluten free – including all cross contamination like fries from a shared frier, asking for special pans/cooking at restaurants and friend’s houses. When going out with friends, she will likely often get sick or go without eating when nothing is safe. College choices may be based on ones who can properly feed her. The FDA only acknowledges wheat as an allergen but barley and rye have gluten too so they’re off the table but hard to even know if they’re in food – barley is often hidden as just “malt”.
While I agree the gmo foods likely are pushing this disease along, what also has factored into the recent diagnosis is that an Italian doctor finally got research going on it 20 years ago; before that doctors thought it was rare so many went undiagnosed or were misdiagnosed. I’ve heard so many painful stories of this and am grateful my daughter was diagnosed in only a few months after constant pain, headaches, and fatigue.
Here’s what I heard in the podcast: “we have a lot of cases of celiac disease going around…you know what that is, it’s where you have a gluten allergy”
Thank you for your consideration.
You state that you do not make money by linking to those items, however when I follow the link I can clearly see your Amazon affiliate tag in the URL, which means that you do, in fact, make money from people buying through your links. As self-proclaimed Christians, I would expect greater integrity. I really don’t appreciate the dishonesty regarding your affiliate links.
Thanks for commenting and letting us know about this, Talia. This post was created in 2016, and at the time, we did not have Amazon affiliate links. We’ve updated the post. -MBA Team
