I believe that a “one size fits all” approach to debating Christians is misguided. I recently wrote a post on my blog entitled, “How to Debate a Christian”. I believe that the key to debating Christians is to know which type of Christian he or she is: a Liberal, a Moderate, or a Fundamentalist. I believe that each of these three types of Christian has a different weakness in their Christian belief system; a weakness which the atheist/skeptic can take advantage of to win the debate. I would be interested in a Christian critique of my post if anyone has the time and inclination.

Gary, I couldn’t agree more! I look forward to reading your blog about it. I think it’s also important to know where the person is on their journey. Are they a learner, seeker, doubter, hardened doubter, or firm believer. (see podcasts here and here) And I think we could add to the “firm believer” category, what kind of believer? A Liberal, Moderate, or Fundamentalist? Good thoughts!
(Although, I must add that I think sometimes believers spend too much time debating one another and not enough time focusing on the more important battles. There is much value in emphasizing the areas that we agree, and having grace on debatable issues for the purposes of unity. There is too big of a battle going on out there for the souls of people to be caught up in debates over minor doctrines. I’m sure you’re referring to much larger issues though.)
